VIAA Marks 20 Years with $1 Billion in Written Premium

Independent agency network celebrates milestone growth and member success.

Valley Insurance Agency Alliance (VIAA) has crossed $1 billion in written premium in the same year it celebrates its 20th anniversary on June 1. This milestone reflects the strength of a network of more than 165 independent agencies that have grown their businesses without giving up ownership or control.

This comes as independent agencies are capturing a growing share of the U.S. property and casualty market, with independents now writing nearly 60% of all P&C insurance and 87 percent of commercial lines, according to the Big I 2025 Market Share Report.

“Most people told us independent agents couldn’t compete with the big captive carriers. This billion dollars says otherwise,” says Henry Powers, Chief Growth Officer of VIAA.

VIAA, which has 23 employees, continues to evolve alongside its members by providing training through personal lines and commercial lines bootcamps, regional roadshows, and annual conferences designed to help agencies grow. Since launching its bootcamp program in 2024, more than 70 agency staff have completed training in personal and commercial lines. VIAA member agencies reported $5.1M in total new business in the year following completion.

As VIAA looks ahead, the organization plans to expand its bootcamp programming and, in partnership with SIAA, roll out artificial intelligence tools designed to help member agencies grow smarter and faster.
