Kenworth Introduces the W990

Kenworth W990

There’s a lot that goes into purchasing a new fleet vehicle. All aspects should be considered—the truck’s power, durability, versatility, ease of maneuverability, and the brand’s service network. Kenworth understands. That’s why its new W990 lives up to all of your highest standards and more.

Kenworth adds style to performance in this long-hood classic. The truck features the power needed to get your haul to those tough-to-reach worksites as well as the comfort of a luxury sedan to ease your driver’s burden on that difficult drive.

PACCAR MX engines power the Kenworth W990. Designed to meet the demands of heavy-duty truck applications is the 12.9-L PACCAR MX-13 that delivers up to 510 hp and 1,850 lb-ft of torque at 1,000 rpm. The PACCAR MX-11 delivers 335-450 hp and 1,150-1,650 lb-ft of torque. So go ahead, move those large payloads with incredible ease, even up mountains.

It’s important to Kenworth that the brand’s machines run smoothly and seamlessly—so Kenworth also chooses PACCAR power for the transmission and axles. A 12-speed automatic PACCAR transmission shifts the gears in the W990 and is the lightest 1,850 lb-ft torque capable heavy-duty automated transmission on the market. It also requires half as much oil as comparable automated transmissions. And the truck rests on PACCAR axles with a GCW of 80,000 lbs.

Upon opening the doors to the Kenworth W990 for the first time, you’ll realize this is more than just a truck—this is your next fleet purchase. With Kenworth’s high performance heater/air conditioner located on the firewall to reduce noise and a flatter toe board angle and suspended throttle and clutch pedals to reduce leg strain, driving the W990 isn’t a chore, it’s an experience.

The W990 features fully adjustable Air Cushion Premium Plus seats that are orthopedically contoured for support and comfort. The dash features multiplexed electronic instrumentation, plenty of gauge options, and easy-to-reach, large switches and controls—perfect for your glove-wearing drivers.

Additionally, in-cab storage is a must for some applications. The W990 features a convenient place to store a thermos for early morning driver’s fuel, upholstered seat back pockets, and a center console with two 12-volt outlets, a perfect spot for your cell, drink holders, and more.

The Kenworth Driver Performance Center offers at-a-glance information for drivers on a 5-inch full color, high resolution screen. The Performance Center displays everything drivers should know about operating at peak performance and efficiency as well as speed and fuel gauges. Performance indicators and truck diagnostics alert the driver with Performance Center pop-ups. Multi-route comparisons and trip details displayed on the Performance Center also allow drivers to maximize their performance.

Kenworth has also designed an in-dash NAV+ HD display that acts as a driver’s personal assistant. With a spoken command or a touch to the 7-inch screen, drivers have access to a range of features such as navigation, vehicle data, audio controls, blind-spot camera inputs, hands-free calling, the internet, and roadside assistance. If you find that your roadside assistance event leads to a maintenance issue, Kenworth has you covered.

With the TruckTech+ Service Management System, owners can speed up their truck’s maintenance through Kenworth’s online portal. There, owners can streamline communication as well as organize notes, time and date-stamped activity, emails, and electronic approvals. This eliminates error-prone data entry and centralizes all asset information.

The online portal allows owners to obtain real-time visibility throughout the duration of their truck’s maintenance service. The portal also allows owners to collaborate with the Kenworth service team, review and approve estimates, and obtain status reports.

Along with TruckTech+ Service, Kenworth’s network expands to its PremierCare platform, committed to increasing the productivity of every truck in your Kenworth fleet. PremierCare offers extended hours of operation, expedited diagnostics, expert factory-trained technicians, and mobile roadside assistance.

Although recently introduced by Kenworth, the W990 could soon become the new standard in heavy-duty vocational applications. When it’s time to purchase a new fleet vehicle, consider all your options—but chances are you’ll find yourself at a Kenworth dealership.
