What You Need to Know about ConExpo

Conexpo

This year in March, 2,800 exhibitors and 150 educational sessions are held in a 2.6 million-sq-ft facility for North America’s largest construction trade show. CONEXPO-CON/AGG is held every three years, and it seems to get bigger with each show. The last show in 2017 saw 128,000 attendees with more than 150 countries represented, 200-plus product categories, drones and virtual reality devices were in the spotlight, and live demonstrations of new equipment. What can we expect at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2020?

One of the great things of CONEXPO is that it isn’t just a trade show. It’s a demonstration site, a look at tech of the future, and educational sessions for training, certification, and insights on the industry.

GET EDUCATED

An aspect of the show that business owners and decision makers should consider attending is its comprehensive educational programs. These programs are a great way for contractors, construction material producers, business owners, and end users to gain the latest information on today’s business model and economy.

Educational tracks cover: aggregates; asphalt; concrete; cranes, rigging, and aerial lifts; earthmoving and site development; equipment management and maintenance; best practices in business; attracting, engaging, and retaining talent; safety; and technology solutions.

TECH EXPERIENCE

CONEXPO’s Tech Experience is back this year and features two locations in Silver Lot 3 and Festival Grounds. Attendees will see what’s changing in the construction industry in three areas: Modern Mobility, Sustainability, and Smart Cities.

Through Modern Mobility, attendees will learn how transportation, whether personal, shared, intelligent, and/or autonomous, is transforming. It is estimated that the current infrastructure can’t sustain the number of vehicles expected with future growth, and construction professionals will play a vital role in rebuilding and rethinking transportation as we know it.

Attendees will learn about Sustainability through building design, vehicles, and cities that involve renewable energy, recycled materials, and more.

Finally, Smart Cities shows attendees that urban areas incorporating electronic data collection can help manage power, transportation, water supply, and so much more. Contractors should be up-to-date on this technology as it affects practices and procedures on the jobsite.

FOR THE LADIES

In addition to all the educational sessions, the Tech Experience, and the trade show floor, CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2020 offers events that highlight women in the industry through a partnership with The National Association of Women in Construction and Women of Asphalt. These events include a Genders on the Jobsite breakfast, an Influencer Meet and Greet (panel discussion), an executive lunch forum, and more than 20 educational session led by women.

This year’s show is from March 10-14. Show hours are 9 am to 5 pm Tuesday to Friday, and 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday. Be sure to bring your comfortable shoes and your water bottle!
