Western Star Puts Quality and Value Under the Hood of the 4700

VOCATIONAL DEMANDS A STAR

Western Star 4700

Any engineer can design a truck, but it takes a team effort—from engineers to those who use the trucks on a daily basis—to design the great vocational machine that is found on Western Star lots all over the States.

Western Star consulted with its engineers, truck owners, and bodybuilders when designing its 4700, offering a well-rounded truck that meets the needs of any business.

DRIVER-MINDED

Vocational truck operators are more than just drivers. Their truck is often a tool to get them and their equipment from one place to the next to begin working on a project. It’s important that the driving portion of their job feels more relaxing and less taxing.

The Western Star 4700’s interior is newly designed to more perfectly suit drivers. It’s built to increase functionality and to aesthetically please (a new selection of colors and finishes adds brightness and is easier to clean). The 72-inch-wide cab with large door openings makes it easier for a driver to enter and exit—not to mention increased driver visibility, especially with the 4700’s sloped hood. The 4700 also has a shorter overall length, and with a wheel cut of 50 degrees, maneuverability will be no problem for any driver.

Outboard cab mounts in the 4700 are placed as wide as possible to maximize stability, while also providing a more comfortable ride on rough terrain and reducing body roll in turns.

Western Star makes work life simpler in its 4700. With in-cab storage in the doors and between the seats, marine-grade switches you can customize, and a hinged dash with exposed fasteners for improved service, you’ve got a truly functional work truck.

VOCATION-FOCUSED

For vocational trucks, the simpler the upfit, the better. The 4700 was built to accommodate quick body installation, saving money. The 4700 features a clean back of cab, front frame extensions, in-cab batteries for clear frame rails, room between seats to install auxiliary equipment, and more.

A Western Star 4700’s bodybuilder interface connector and transmission control unit is in the cab, protected from the elements. The blower motor is also in the cab instead of the firewall. There’s no need for unnecessary drilling because a bolt-in pass-through plate is located in the cab floor, and a dedicated floor channel with an easy-to-remove top that provides plenty of room for you to run your own wiring makes upfitting that much easier.

Grade 8 frame fasteners allow upfitters to install optional equipment on the frame and retorque in the field as needed. The 4700’s wiring and air bundles are supported off the frame rail, which allows debris to pass behind the bundle. This eliminates the possibility of abrasion that leads to electrical and air failures. Laser-etched chassis wiring allows users to more easily troubleshoot wiring issues—all contributing to a truck that’s easier to upfit and easier to service.

PERFORMANCE-DRIVEN

A business’ bottom line is a big influence on the decisions made by an owner, and Western Star’s 4700 contributes to bottom line savings with its lightweight, single-channel frame. But this lightweight frame doesn’t skimp on heavy-duty performance. Half an inch in thickness and rated at 3.2MM RBM, the rails also come custom drilled for your specific application.

We can’t talk about performance without mentioning engines. The Western Star 4700 features two different engine choices: a Cummins L9 that offers 260 to 380 hp and 720 to 1,250 lb-ft of torque or a Detroit DD13 that offers 350 to 505 hp and 1,250 to 1,850 lb-ft of torque. Pair your engine with an Eaton Fuller Ultrashift PLUS or Eaton Fuller 10-, 11-,13-, 15-, or 18-speed transmission. For Allison loyalists, choose an Allison Automatic 3000, 3500, 4000, 4500, or 4700.

STAR PLAYER

Western Star’s 4700 is engineered to exceed expectations from the moment of your first test drive. This driver-friendly truck is easy to upfit, easy to service, and adds value to your fleet. The team effort involved in creating this vocational beast won’t go unnoticed by your drivers or the bodybuilders who fit your truck to your specific application.

This well-rounded truck really does meet the needs of any heavy-duty business.
