Spireon Activates Live Tracking for the 2020 US Capitol Christmas Tree

FOLLOW THE “PEOPLE’S TREE” ON ITS JOURNEY FROM THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS OF COLORADO TO THE WEST LAWN OF WASHINGTON, DC

Spireon launched real-time tracking of the US Capitol Christmas Tree as it makes its way from the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National (GMUG) forests in Colorado to Washington, DC. For 50 years, the USDA Forest Service has provided a Christmas tree to appear at the US Capitol building. In partnership with the national non-profit Choose Outdoors and Colorado Tourism, the tree can now be tracked with Spireon’s FleetLocate® trailer management solution at www.capitoltreetracker.com.

From the Uncompahgre Plateau on the Ouray Ranger District, the Engelmann Spruce Christmas tree stands 55-ft tall and 25-ft wide. A specialty trailer equipped with Spireon’s FL Flex trailer telematics solution hauls the massive spruce to Washington, DC. Spireon’s telematics solution allows the public to follow its journey. Additionally, between November 10 and 20, the tree will stop at several communities for a series of socially-distanced outdoor festivities. Communities will hold festivities at fair grounds, schools, main streets, visitor centers, convention centers, and retailers. In December, the Capitol Grounds and Arboretum team will light the tree on the West Lawn during an official ceremony.

“We are happy to see the US Capitol Christmas Tree off for another remarkable journey across our great country,” says Roni Taylor, senior vice president of strategy and business development at Spireon. “In an unprecedented year, we look forward to following the trip online and wish the entire team a safe trip.”

TRACKING THE TREE

Spireon’s FL Flex telematics device features versatile functionality as well as its ability to support a wide range of assets. From dry vans to the specialty flatbed used for the tree, Spireon can manage and track any type of trailer. Additionally, as Spireon live tracks the journey, it allows communities to welcome the tree on its way to the capitol.

“This holiday season is unlike any other, and it’s our strong partnerships that allow us to carry on this long-standing tradition,” says Bruce Ward, president of Choose Outdoors. “We are grateful for Spireon’s continued support and dedication to this project.”
