Jersey City to Receive First Electric Refuse Trucks

Hudson County Motors and BYD announced they will provide all-electric refuse trucks to the City of Jersey City, New Jersey. These will be the first all-electric refuse trucks on the US East Coast capable of working an entire route. These five all-electric collection trucks will work on normal daily collection routes as well as provide regular zero-emission collection services.

“Jersey City will be a model for what is now possible with zero-emission refuse trucks,” says John Gerra, senior director of business development with BYD Motors. “We look forward to helping provide clean streets and clean air for the residents of Jersey City.”

Additionally, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and Sanitation Equipmen Corp. of Totawa, New Jersey, helped support the project.

Hudson County Motors is BYD’s fully authorized truck dealer for Northern New Jersey. This includes Bayonne, Elizabeth, Jersey City, Newark, and Trenton. Because of its base in Secaucus, New Jersey, Hudson County Motor’s location makes it well positioned to support the New Jersey electric truck market.

Lastly, Hudson County Motors has partnered with Climate Change Mitigation Technologies LLC (CCMT), a pioneer in medium- and heavy-duty commercial fleet truck electrification projects. CCMT provides project management services for all of Hudson County Motors’ electric truck programs.
