Continental Partners with Navistar to Launch Regional On/Off-road Tires with 220-lb Load Capacity

Through a partnership with Navistar, Continental designed a new lineup of 19.5-inch tires for regional on- and off-road uses. Continental launched the tires in Load Range H; this allows them to deliver extra load carrying capacity as well as the highest speed rating in the market. The HSR+ regional steer/all-position and HDR+ regional on/off-road drive tires are both available in Load Range H. As a result, each tire carries a capacity of 220 lbs in single and dual applications. The tires have a speed rating of 87 mph, which is the highest in the market for this tire type. The tires will be standard on all Chevrolet Silverado 5500 and 6500 trucks and International CV Series vehicles from Navistar.

The regional steer/all-position Continental HSR+ features a tread depth of 16/32-inches. It features a closed shoulder tread design that delivers even wear and reduced road noise. The tread compound is resistant to tearing and features a scuff rib that protects against cuts, curbing, and abrasions. Its versatility allows customers to use it in all axle position when driven on-road.

The on/off-road Continental HDR+ drive tire features a tread depth of 18/32-inches with open should tread design to increase traction. As with the HSR+, the tread compound is resistant to tearing and also features a scuff rub. The HDR+’s tread design offers lateral stability that improves handling. Both the HDR+ and the HSR+ are available in size 225/70R19.5-inches in Load Range G and H.

“Continental is proud to partner with Navistar to develop the best tire for the needs of medium-duty vehicle fleets,” says Shaun Uys, Continental’s head of strategic fleets and original equipment for truck tires in the Americas region. “Our tire engineers carefully balance performance characteristics such as tear resistance, safe handling, and traction, to deliver a tire that will perform in regional and on/off-road environments.”
