GETTING AROUND TOWN

Volvo designed its VNM 200 to meet regional and local hauling demands with agile maneuverability and maximum visibility. Features like its shorter wheelbase help the VNM 200 maneuver in and out of the tightest urban delivery spots. Volvo knows that the demands of urban deliveries mean tight schedules, frequent stops, and busy, high-traffic areas. According to Volvo, “Whatever your task, this nimble performer knows its way around.
“The lightweight VNM 200 daycab is designed to help you excel in regional bulk or specialty hauling. And, it’s easily tailored to match your specific
needs. The shorter hood, up to 50-degree wheel cut, and panoramic windshield make driving a snap, especially in those tight areas in and around town.”

PERFORMANCE POWER

The VNM 200 is available with multiple engine and transmission options, including the Volvo D11, D13, and the Cummins ISL G. The fuel-efficient Volvo D11 and D13 engines feature a standard common rail fuel injection system to get the most power out of every drop of fuel and offer 325-425 hp with 1,250-1,550 lb-ft of torque and 375-500 hp with 1,450-1,850 lb-ft of torque, respectively.
Each Volvo engine has its own unique attributes. The D11 is a lighter solution for maximizing fuel efficiency in bulk, LTL, and distribution applications, while the D13 delivers the right mix of efficiency, power, and reduced weight to help improve operating costs. The D13 offers 12 power ratings with nine eXceptional Efficiency (XE), eight Eco-Torque, and three Dual-Torque ratings providing “dual-personality” torque output for customers who desire the fuel economy of lower torque with the strong performance of higher torque.
The Cummins ISL G natural gas-powered engine provides 250-320 hp with 660-1,000 lb-ft of torque. The ISL G’s design provides superior piston ring and bearing life, improved coolant flow, and targeted-piston cooling. With five available power ratings, the high torque and broad power band of the ISL G is ideal for delivery and drayage applications. Between these engine offerings, there’s no doubt you can find the right power for your fleet needs.

TRANS FOR EVERY OCCASION

The VNM’s transmission options further allow you to customize based on what you need. For the VNM 200, Volvo offers the Volvo I-Shift 12-speed transmission, Eaton Fuller 10-, 13-, and 18-speed manual transmissions, and Allison 5-6-speed automatic transmission. The Volvo I-Shift uses intelligent electronics to continuously monitor grade, speed, weight, and engine load, shifting when necessary or holding a gear to whichever saves more fuel.
“The latest edition of the I-Shift includes upgraded hardware and software, greater durability, and a new countershaft brake for improved performance and smoother shifting,” according to Volvo. The company has improved clutch durability and torsional dampening in both the D11 and D13 model. “So, I-Shift not only keeps fuel costs down, it can help slow driveline wear, reduce noise and vibration, extend transmission life, and lower maintenance costs,” explains Volvo. “Whether your route includes rolling hills or steep mountain terrain, Volvo’s innovative I-See option employs self-learning knowledge of road topography to work with I-Shift, helping your drivers optimize the truck’s speed and gear-shifting.”

COMFORT IN SURROUND

The VNM sits on a solid chassis, offering smooth-riding air suspension and precise, automotive-like handling. The cab air suspensions and outboard mounted air springs, shocks, and stabilizing rod work together to give drivers a smooth ride. With doors more than 3 ft wide and 4 ft tall—with 70-degree openings—the VNM offers easy access. Offset steps and internal grab handles that stay clean and dry offer a safer, no-slip entry and exit.
The VNM 200’s well-insulated cab offers great visibility, ergonomically comfortable seats, and easy to reach controls on its wraparound dashboard. “With back and lateral support, front and rear cushion adjustment, fore/aft isolation, seven-inch fore-and-aft slide, and power air lumbar support, the VNM standard seats offer drivers an incredibly comfortable ride,” according to Volvo. With an expandable audio system that lets you connect mobile devices through Bluetooth, USB, and AUX, the VNM offers an industry-leading interior that is comfortable, yet tough enough to handle the most demanding applications.

SAFETY PROTOCOL

Volvo’s commitment to safety puts the well-being of your most valuable asset first—your drivers. According to Volvo, “Intelligent design that maximizes comfort and visibility combined with advanced safety technology helps drivers avoid or minimize accidents, keeping them safe while reducing cargo loss, downtime, and accident-related insurance costs.” Volvo Enhanced Safety Technology (VEST), which comes standard on all VNM tractors, can mitigate such incidents as rollovers, jackknives, and loss of control by applying necessary braking to help get the truck back on course.
Volvo combines advanced engineering with active and passive safety systems. Its high-strength steel cabs have the industry’s highest strength-to-weight ratio and are designed to absorb as much of a crash’s energy as possible to protect the driver. Additional efforts to protect drivers include a collapsible steering column and designing the truck so the engine and transmission drop down and away from the driver in the event of a collision.
