The Mack Granite has the Durability and Maneuverability for Your Job

100 YEARS IN THE MAKING

You can’t manufacture vehicles for a century and not learn a thing or two. Around since 1900, Mack has well established itself as a big-time player in the world of heavy-duty vehicle manufacturing, and one truck that helps carry Mack’s reputation is its lightweight, versatile Granite.

The Granite is designed for upfits, offers plenty of options, and features a cab that keeps driver’s comfortable all day.

POWER-FULL

This Class 8 is a workman’s dream.

The Granite features a galvanized steel cab that is durable, rugged, and complete with wide-set airbags and air cab springs to keep drivers safe and comfortable. A sloped hood improves visibility, and Mack’s Cornerstone chassis with heavy-duty crossmembers features a frame that provides durability, versatility, and performance. A body-ready electrical system is standard, reduces installation time, and ensures reliability no matter the chosen configuration. Depending on your application and local bridge laws, you can choose set-forward or set-back axles. And drivers can easily navigate rough roads and steep inclines with a high ground clearance.

The Granite is also offered with a 6-inch increase in ride height, providing additional clearance for underbody scraper applications. The height difference allows the scraper to have a full range of motion to move more than 45 degrees in both directions, enhancing snow removal in the winter and road grading in the offseason.

Mack Trucks introduced a new split-shaft functionality for its Mack mDRIVE HD automated manual transmissions, providing customers with high-demand PTO needs a fully integrated solution.

Choose between two engines with the Granite: MP7 or MP8. The 11-L MP7 pumps out 325 to 425 hp and 1,200 to 1,560 lb-ft of torque. It features a weight savings of 51 lbs, improves fuel economy by 2 to 5 percent, and helps to maximize payloads in weight-sensitive applications. The MP7 is designed to meet the EPA 2017 standards, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and keeping your trucks clean and fuel efficient.

The 13-L MP8 offers 415 to 505 hp and 1,460 to 1,860 lb-ft of torque. This engine offers 88 lbs in weight savings and improves fuel economy by 2.5 to 5 percent. The MP8 delivers an even distribution of power and torque across a wide range that can be suited to your needs for the perfect mix of power and efficiency. This engine is best used in heavy-duty vocational and highway workloads. Pair these engines with an mDRIVE HD, and you’re in business.

mDRIVE HD

The Granite comes standard with the mDRIVE HD 13-speed automated manual transmission. New for the mDRIVE HD is a Split-Shaft functionality that offers a fully integrated solution for customers with high-demand Power Take Off (PTO) needs. Instead of taking power from the engine- or transmission-mounted PTO, split-shaft PTOs are mounted in the middle of the driveline to receive output directly from the transmission, granting more torque for auxiliary equipment.

INTERIOR

They say it’s what’s on the inside that counts.

Improve productivity with a more comfortable and more efficient workspace. “The new Granite interior offers the best working environment for vocational drivers,” Jonathan Randall, senior vice president of North American sales and marketing at Mack Trucks, says. “The Granite manages to handle even the most difficult tasks with ease, and it’s critical that drivers have a surrounding environment that makes it easier for them to do their jobs in comfort.”

The Granite features an industry-first flat bottomed steering wheel that allows for easier entrance and exit of the cab and offers more stomach room. Buyers have the option of adding illuminated cruise control, Bluetooth, and audio system buttons to the steering wheel. The new steering wheel also increases the driver’s view of the dash.

The Mack Granite model features an interior developed to improve comforta and offer an ergonomic, driver-centric layout.

The dash layout and gauge cluster of the Granite improves visibility and readability. Controls that are frequently used by the driver are conveniently located within a fingertip’s reach, and switches are located higher on the dash. The dash can accommodate up to 18 easy-to-read switches, all with laser-etched labeling to withstand repeated use. The dash also features multiple 12-volt and USB charging ports, and a nonslip pad on the top of the dash features two USB charging ports.

The Mack Co-Pilot also got an upgrade. A 5-inch full-color display behind the steering wheel offers enhanced visibility and navigation. With Co-Pilot, drivers can monitor information such as engine and oil temperature, aftertreatment status, odometers, tire pressure, and more. Along with the 5-inch Co-Pilot display, a 7-inch infotainment system is available with a touchscreen display. The system has access to Apple Car Play, satellite radio, weather band radio, and TomTom truck navigation.

Drivers control the feel of their cabs through the Granite’s Automatic Temperature Control feature that keeps the cab at a temperature set by the driver. A new lower center console holds cup holders and storage bins, both easily removed for cleaning.

HIGH STANDARDS

When it comes to buying a vehicle, there are always “available options” you can choose. But it’s better if those great things come standard. The Granite’s standard model comes equipped with the features you would expect, as well as those great features other manufacturers would deem as “available options.”

Enter the Granite on self-cleaning steps, then enjoy power locks and windows, a full-color Co-Pilot display, digital analog gauges, a nonslip electronics tray, oversized cup holders, driver’s seat air suspension, and a high-performance HVAC system. How’s that for high standards?

One hundred years of experience is shown in the trucks Mack manufactures, and with its proven power, sleek interior, and impressive standard features, the Granite is no exception.
