The Volvo VHD 200 Touts Off-highway Capability and Premium On-highway Features

ADMIRE ITS PURITY

Volvo VHD 200 Mixer

Volvo’s VHD 200 is equipped with a highly integrated Volvo drivetrain, and offers tight maneuverability for straight-truck applications, such as concrete pumpers and mixers. “The VHD offers the versatility to meet your needs with available axle-forward and axle-back configurations. Rugged front and rear axles provide extra durability for tough vocational applications,” according to Volvo.

THRILL ME, WOULD YA?

Volvo offers its D11 and D13 engines for the VHD 200. Both engines have gotten a few upgrades from previous models. “Energy that is normally lost is now recovered with standard features, including lower friction pistons. A standard common-rail fuel injection system gets the most power out of every drop of fuel. And, reliability isn’t sacrificed for greater efficiency,” according to Volvo. Features of the D11 engine include:

  • 325-425 hp with 1,250-1,550 lb-ft of torque
  • Fuel-efficient, lightweight design
  • B50 life of 1.2 million miles

Both engines use a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) to compress and move intake air, while providing the correct back pressure to drive the EGR process. According to Volvo, “The VGT enhances our intelligent Volvo Engine Brakes.” Other features of the D13 include:

  • 375-500 hp with 1,450-1,850 lb-ft of torque
  • Available in 16 engine ratings
  • At 2,676-lb dry weight, it offers one of the best power-to-weight ratios
  • B50 life of 1.2 million miles

Volvo has upgraded both the hardware and software of its I-Shift for Severe-Duty transmissions, a feature that comes standard on all VHDs. “Our newest I-Shift allows drivers to be more focused and productive,” according to Volvo. “The automated manual transmission allows them to fully concentrate on the work environment. Without the constant demands of shifting, they spend more time alert to jobsite hazards that could create accidents and delays.”

TALK ABOUT THE BONUS

Volvo designed the VHD 200 with premium features—including a “solid chassis” and “sure-footed suspension”—to maximize efficiency and productivity. “The well-insulated cab offers superior noise suppression, great visibility, adjustable and supportive seats, and a wraparound dashboard designed to keep all controls within reach,” according to Volvo.

With a panoramic, one-piece windshield, sloped side windows, sloped hood, and split rearview mirror design, VHD offers more than sufficient visibility. And, according to Volvo, vents in the door and dash help keep your view clear on all sides. Other productivity increasing features include:

  • A thick layer of insulation to keep the cab quite
  • A centrally located instrument cluster with Driver Information Display (DID)
  • Expandable audio system to connect mobile devices through Bluetooth, USB, and AUX
  • Analog gauges, such as fuel, speed, and rpm
  • Cab air suspensions and outboard- mounted air springs, shocks, and stabilizing rod for a smoother ride

WELL, THAT EXPLAINS IT

Safety is an important part of what Volvo gives to its customers. “Since 1927, our brand has used safety as the guiding principle for everything we build,” according to Volvo. “We were the first company to introduce three-point safety belts as a standard feature and, to this day, are the only company to provide driver-side airbags standard in every truck we make.”
Volvo combines advanced engineering with active and passive safety systems. The company’s high-strength steel (HSS) cabs have the industry’s highest strength-to-weight ratio to protect drivers and passengers. “To further protect occupants, the steering column collapses and the engine and transmission drop down and away from the driver,” explains Volvo.

THE ONLY WAY TO BE SURE

Volvo offers Remote Diagnostics to help avoid unexpected downtime by monitoring your Volvo engine, I-Shift, and aftertreatment. “Standard in every Volvo-powered truck, Remote Diagnostics offers a range of benefits, including enhanced proactive diagnostics, detailed analysis of critical fault codes for repair planning, immediate communication if actions are required, and streamlined service procedures,” according to Volvo.
“It’s a powerful service that reduces average diagnostic times by 70% and average repair times by 22%. With a dedicated team of professionals available around the clock at Volvo’s world-class Uptime Center in Greensboro, North Carolina, Volvo goes beyond diagnostic technology to deliver actionable solutions.”

NOT LEAVING SOON

With more than 360 dealers and thousands of service locations across North America, Volvo’s world-class dealer network supports customers regardless of place or time. “Your time means money, that’s why Volvo Trucks Uptime Services saves you both,” according to Volvo.
Volvo offers a variety of customizable engine and chassis coverage plans, letting you choose the length and extent of coverage that meets the needs of your fleet.
